(1) Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students

  1. In-class Chinese Learning Support Programme

The programme is divided into groups of P1, P2, P3A, P3B, P4 and P5. Target students will be withdrawn from the ordinary classes to attend Chinese lessons. Small group teaching will be conducted. Adaptation will also be made in different areas such as homework, dictation, assessment and examination.

Implementation period: 9/2019 - 6/2020

(2)  After-school Chinese Enhancement Class

To consolidate learning and provide homework support to target students, after-school Chinese classes will be arranged.

Activity

(3) Paired Reading Scheme 

To cultivate an inclusive school environment and develop students’ listening and speaking skills, senior Chinese students will support junior NCS students to do revision and read books.

(4) Sunshine Teachers Scheme 

Teachers arrange lunch meetings with a Chinese student and an NCS student each time. This serves to foster teacher-student relationship, promote a harmonious environment and allow students with different cultural background learn to respect and appreciate each other.

(5) School visits/ Other Learning Experiences

* Learning Chinese through picture books

* 17 December: Visit to The Fire and Ambulance Services Education Centre cum Musuem

* 21 January: Disney Study Tour

* 2 June: Visit to Tao Heung Museum of Food Culture (cancelled due to COVID-19)

* 24 June: Chinese Fun Day (cancelled due to COVID-19)

‘Sunshine Teacher’

Chinese teachers arrange lunch meetings with Chinese and NCS student(s) to cultivate a deep relationship between teachers and students. It also constructs an environment for Chinese students and NCS student(s) to associate with each other which allows them to learn to be tolerant and appreciate each other with different cultural backgrounds.

‘NCS Baby Caring Programme’

Objective: Mainly focus on the adaption of NCS student(s) (School life and Daily life in Hong Kong). Increase their loyalty to the school and hope the Baby Caring Ambassadors can make the NCS student(s) like going to school and love Po Yan. 

External

Cooperate with external organizations

Work with external organizations to do voluntary work for the society which enables NCS student(s) to have more contact with Chinese people outside school and find out more about the society and culture in Hong Kong.

Cooperate with secondary schools in the same district

Promote inclusive activities with secondary schools in the same district to enable NCS student(s) to have contact with Chinese people outside school and find out more about the society and culture in Hong Kong.
