Information for non-Chinese speaking parents
COURSE
Our school participated in the ‘Chinese Learning Support Programme’ from the Education Bureau in the 2022/2023 school year. In order to provide support, some arrangements have been made with the reference to the learning progress and needs of NCS student(s). Details are as follows:
In-class Chinese Learning Support Programme

NCS student(s) will be withdrawn from ordinary Chinese classes and put in small parallel classes. Small group teaching will be conducted.

 

Teaching assistants will be in class to provide extra support for NCS student(s) during ordinary Chinese classes. 

 

Adaption will be made in different areas such as Chinese courses, homework, dictation, assessment and examination.

Inclusion Activities

Organizing activities to promote cultural integration/raise sensitivity to diverse cultures and religions:
‘Teachers’ Training programme’ and ‘Students’ talk’ will be established for students and teachers to learn the culture, tradition and taboos from the ethnic group which can improve the communication techniques between them.

 

Provide opportunities for NCS student(s) to learn and interact with their Chinese-speaking peers in school or outside school (For example, arrange NCS student(s) to join uniform teams or social services): provide opportunities for NCS student(s) to be leaders, strive for the cooperation to organize inclusion activities with different organizations; encourage NCS student(s) to join uniform teams.

 

Promote Home-School Cooperation to parents of NCS student(s):
Discuss the learning progress of the NCS student(s) with their parents (including Chinese learning progress) regularly.
Provide information for choices of schools / further studies to parents of NCS student(s).
Explain and emphasise the importance of learning Chinese to parents of NCS students.
To enhance communication between the school and parents of NCS student(s). A translator will be arranged for the school to provide translation service. It includes providing the translation of school notices and interpreting services at Parents’ Talk and on Parent-Teacher’s Day.
Others

‘Paired Reading Scheme’
To cultivate an inclusive school environment and develop students’ listening and speaking skills, senior Chinese students will support junior NCS students to read books. (Launching date depends on the development of the epidemic situation and guidelines from the Education Bureau).

 

‘Sunshine Teacher Scheme’
The Chinese teacher, Mr. Yum arranges lunch meetings with a Chinese student and an NCS student each time. This serves to foster teacher-student relationships, promote a harmonious environment and allow students with different cultural backgrounds to learn to respect and appreciate each other. ‘NCS Baby Caring Programme’
This programme is to support those NCS student(s) with lower ability and less family support. Hope to improve their self-care ability and academic performances through the initiative, continuous, and intimate care from the teachers. (Launching dates depend on the development of the epidemic situation and guidelines from the Education Bureau)
